Background of the Study
The communication gap between parents and teachers in secondary schools has been identified as a significant factor hindering student academic progress and overall development. In Dutse Local Government Area, Jigawa State, there is a noticeable lack of a centralized, efficient communication platform that allows for seamless interaction between parents and teachers. Traditional communication methods, such as face-to-face meetings or written notes, are often inefficient, time-consuming, and inadequate for addressing urgent concerns.
With the increasing prevalence of mobile devices and internet access, there is an opportunity to bridge this communication gap by developing a Parent-Teacher Communication Portal. Such a system would facilitate real-time communication between parents and teachers, allowing for prompt updates on student progress, behavior, attendance, and other important school-related matters. This digital platform would enable teachers to share detailed feedback about students’ academic performance, while parents could inquire about their child's school life and provide support when necessary.
The development of this portal is expected to improve parent involvement in their children's education, which has been linked to better academic outcomes for students. By integrating messaging features, progress tracking, and event notifications, the portal would enhance the educational experience and foster stronger relationships between parents and the school community. The system will be developed using a web-based platform, with mobile applications to ensure accessibility on different devices, using technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and Firebase for backend management.
